Today's Sudoku puzzle at easy, medium, or hard difficulty, a new one every day.
Generating today's puzzle…
About this puzzle
Sudoku, generated fresh every day at three difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard, so you can pick the challenge that fits. Easy leaves the most starting numbers filled in for a quicker solve; hard leaves the fewest, for a real daily challenge; medium sits in between. Every puzzle, at every difficulty, is generated with a real backtracking solver that verifies it has exactly one valid solution before it's shown to you.
The rules are simple: fill the 9×9 grid so that every row, every column, and every one of the nine 3×3 boxes contains each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. No arithmetic is involved; the numbers could just as well be letters or symbols. The whole challenge is logical deduction, working out which digit must go in a cell because every other option is ruled out.
If you're new to Sudoku, start with easy and look for "singles": a cell where only one digit is still possible, or a digit that can only fit in one place within a row, column, or box. Medium and hard puzzles gradually require techniques like pairs and pointing, which the Sudoku solving techniques guide walks through step by step. A well-made Sudoku never requires guessing; there's always a logical next step, even when it's hard to find.
Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between easy, medium, and hard?
- Mainly how many starting numbers are filled in. Easy leaves the most, for a quicker solve; hard leaves the fewest, requiring more deduction and sometimes more advanced solving techniques; medium sits in between. Switch between them anytime with the tabs above the board; each keeps its own puzzle and progress.
- Does today's puzzle change if I come back later?
- No, the puzzle stays the same all day (it resets at midnight UTC, the same moment for everyone) so you can pick up where you left off, and so a given day's puzzle is identical no matter where you are. A new puzzle appears the next day, at every difficulty.
- Is every puzzle guaranteed to be solvable?
- Yes, at every difficulty. Each puzzle is generated with a solving algorithm that verifies it has exactly one valid solution before it's shown to you, the same standard used by published Sudoku puzzles.
- Can I get hints?
- Not currently. Conflicting entries are highlighted as you go, which helps catch mistakes, but there's no reveal-a-cell hint feature yet.
