About this puzzle
A new word search puzzle every day, with words hidden in any of 8 directions (forward, backward, and diagonally) around a themed word list that changes daily. Click or drag from the first letter of a word to its last letter to find it.
Each day's grid is 13×13, with around ten words from the day's theme hidden in straight lines. Found words are highlighted in the grid and crossed off the list. Because the puzzle is the same for everyone and the theme rotates, it's a relaxed daily routine that works well on a coffee break, and a nice one to share with kids learning to spell.
The quickest way to find a word is usually to scan for its rarest letter rather than its first one. Letters like Z, Q, X, J, and K appear only a handful of times in the grid, so spotting one narrows the search immediately. From there, check all eight directions around it for the next letter. The word search strategies guide covers this and a few other techniques in more detail.
Frequently asked questions
- Which directions can words be hidden in?
- Any of the 8 straight-line directions: horizontal, vertical, and both diagonals, each either forwards or backwards.
- Does the theme change every day?
- Yes, the word list is drawn from a rotating set of themes (like animals, foods, sports, weather, and countries), picked automatically each day.
- Can the same letter be used in more than one word?
- Yes. Hidden words can cross and share letters, just like in printed word searches, so a letter that's already part of a found word may still belong to another one.
